BUSY WEEK :)

Hi Everyone!

This has been such a crazy week!

  • We survived the Blizzard of 2009

  • Completed the first two weeks of Night Core

  • and we ordered the Airplane tickets for CAPER

For those of you who are confused about any of these things...let me break it down:

1. "We Survived the Blizzard of 2009"

For any of you that didn't know....it snowed...a lot.
We were closed for two days due to inclement weather. Even after high school, you still have snow days. Here is a pic of the weather this weekend...
The roads were treacherous!!!!!! So we stayed safe, and the lovely people at Paul Mitchell the School Tysons Corner let us enjoy a couple snow days to play in the fun!

2. "Completed the first two weeks of core"

The first two weeks of core have been so great. These two weeks consisted of instructing the basics of Hairstyling. This means: pin curls, blow drys, roller sets, up-dos, hair structure, and dry styling. I must say, this class is so talented. They have picked up the information so quickly, and have produced some great work.

3. "And we ordered the Airplane tickets for Caper"

Caper is an amazing educational experience that some future professionals are able to earn a ticket to. The Paul Mitchell the School National Caper event is held in Las Vegas, Nevada every February. Future Professionals that earned a ticket take specialty classes in all areas of cosmetology taught by Celebrities in the industry. This past week, we booked the flights for two staff members and eighteen well deserving future professionals.

Graduation!

Hi Everyone!

This week has been fun! Friday night was graduation at PMTSVA! We had around 20 graduates in attendance and they all looked GREAT!!! There were a lot of friends and famalies there to support thier graduates as well.

Student Council organizes the graduation event and one of the highlights of the night is the FASHION SHOW! The theme was Rock N' Roll (think 80's hair band). The models looked amazing. We have SO much talent in our school! Rory, our Phase 2 leader, put together an awesome slideshow to honor our graduates. After awarding the diplomas to our graduates, we served cake and yummy refreshments to everyone. It was a really fun night! It's amazing to reconnect with graduated students and to hear all of their success stories. I am VERY proud of all of them. Congrats to the December 2009 Class!

I love how involved the staff gets in the events at the school. Beama, a learning leader at PMTSVA, walked in the fashion show. Beama has beautiful curly hair and had it all straightened for the show. Beama NEVER wears his hair straight, so this was a rare treat to see him with flowing locks! Here's a before and after pic! He was such a great sport!

ch-ch-ch-cha changes!!!!

Hello Everyone!!!!

My name is Sarah, and I am the Night Core Learning Leader at Paul Mitchell the School Virginia. Along with Core, I am the Take Home Leader and Caper Specialist Extroadinaire!

This is the first installment of my blog "Get To the Core of It!" and I am SO excited to have the oppurtunity to connect with current and prospective future professionals. I may even one day be your Core "Mommy"!!!!

The Core program is the first part of your education at Paul Mitchell the School Virginia. This is where you learn all of the basics of Hair Styling, Color, Texture, Cutting, and even a little bit of SPA services. All of this is to ensure your confidence and technical ability so you can take GUESTS on the clinic floor after only 250 hours!

This week I am in transition from my first CORE class. They started in September and have been so amazing!!!! I'm really going to miss all the time I get to spend with them now that they are on the clinic floor. They were such a great group. They gave me a framed picture of themselves! I just love them!!!

My new class is starting on December 7th! I am so excited to get started working with them. It looks like the class is going to be about 14-16 future professionals. That is such a perfect size. They get one-on-one attention with me, but they still have the indepence to work on things without feeling overly "watched". I am so ready to have them here!!
That's all for now!
Stay tuned for the next installment of "Get to the Core of it!"
